Remember that overnight flight delay en route to Miami that I mentioned? We spent the entire night in the airport with our one year old, trying to comfort her to sleep and uncomfortably resting ourselves on airport chairs. The airline did gave us flight vouchers as compensation so we decided to take a long weekend getaway, to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary, just us two. This was our first trip without Addie (now, 1.5 years old) and decided that 4 days was the perfect amount of time we were comfortable leaving her. Kindly, our parents agreed to take turns watching her. For this trip, we booked two days worth of guided tours to Marietas Island and zip lining.

Jungle zip lining: We took a speed boat to the other side of PVR, hopped onto a rugged jeep and rode mules up a small mountain. We then started the zipline obstacle course with waterfalls and waterslides all the way back down the mountain. It was exhilarating and so much fun!

Marietas Island: We took a long boat ride to the island with high hopes of seeing the hidden beach. Our guides announced multiple times that only strong swimmers should attempt the swim into the beach due to strong tides and others should remain on the boat. We were both comfortable with this and jumped into the water. Unfortunately, another tourist decided to ignore the advice and struggled to swim to the opening of the hidden beach. After this tourist nearly drowned trying to get in, our guide aborted the mission and directed us back to the boat claiming the conditions were just too dangerous. Sigh, oh well, it just wasn’t meant to be. We did get to enjoy beautiful snorkeling, kayaking and stand up paddle boarding.

Back at the hotel we relaxed with a much needed couple’s message. Time alone for us can be quite rare these days; mini trips and date nights to reconnect are worth their weight in gold.
